Great day in Pensacola. Sunny temps about 70 and light winds. Escambia County Stadium is a great venue for the 14th NIRSA Soccer Championships.

Women's Final Underway

UCSB and San Diego St. are just underway and the Gauchos score in the first minute!! 1-0 UCSB. Goal scored by #18 Allie Browne.

I thought we were in Pensacola

Later today UCSB will have both their men's and women's teams playing in the final in both championship divisions. Both will be the home team in their scheduled finals.

2nd UCSB team in Final

The UCSB Women's team advances to the final after a 4-1 PK win over Penn State after a 0-0 score in regulation.

UCSB will take on defending national champion San Diego State. The game will be played on Field 10 at 3pm.

2006 Finalist Ousted UCSB advances to Final

UCSB defeated Illinois 5-3 in PKs after a 0-0 score in regulation play. Both 2006 finalists have been eliminated in the semifinal round.

UCSB will now take on Texas Tech in the Men's Championship Division Final set for 5pm on Field 10.

Men's Defending Champions Ousted

Texas Tech defeated Michigan 2-1 ending the Wolverines run at a repeat. The Red Raiders await the winner of the Illinois-UCSB game which has headed to PKs.

Women's Defending Champs Back in Final

2006 Champion San Diego State is back in the final as they defeated Michigan State 2-0. It is the second consecutive year San Diego State defeated Michigan State in the semifinal round.

They await the winner of the Penn State-UCSB game which has headed into overtime.

Championship Division Semifinals underway

After a few overtime games at 8am, we are underway with all semifinals:

Men's Open Final Set

Missouri defeated Michigan State 4-1 in PKs after a 1-1 regulation score. 2006 Open Finalist Kansas defeated James Madison 2-0 in overtime.

The Border Showdown between Missouri and Kansas for the open final will take place at 1pm.

Women's Open Final Set

California defeated Arizona 3-0; Villanova defeated Virginia 2-0.

California will face Villanova today for the final at 1pm.

Men's Consolation Final Set

Texas A&M defeated Georgia 3-0 while Penn defeated Navy 1-0 in overtime.

Texas A&M will face Penn for the consolation championship at 1pm.

Defending Champs "Post" Another PK Victory

Michigan defeated UCLA in an exciting match 1-1 with a 9-8 victory in 10 rounds of PKs to advance to the semifinals.

Second half goals by Michigan's Gari Martinovski on a beautiful free kick 28 yards from the goal and UCLA's Ouadhah Ragued on an equally gorgeous shot from the right side of the penalty box set the scene for the PKs.

In the 10th round, UCLA's Noah Rothstein bounced his shot off of the left post and Michigan's Jason Riley made his true to end the match.

Michigan advances to play Texas Tech in the semifinals.

Defending Champs Survive advance to quarterfinals

Michigan needed penalty kicks to defeat Texas today 2-1 (4-3 after 6 PK rounds). They will advance to tonight's quarterfinal round to play UCLA as they defeated Penn State.

In other action, Indiana defeated Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Illinois defeated Boston College, Weber State needed PKs to defeat Colorado State Gold, California-Santa Barbara defeated Vanderbilt, Texas Tech defeated Minnesota and Arizona defeated Ohio State.

Indiana defeats UCLA in PK Shootout

After tying their pool play match 2-2, after each defeated Auburn 1-0, after 6 rounds of PKs in which each team only missed in round 4, Indiana's Nick Young put away his PK in round 7 andUCLA's Daniel Croymans' PK hit square off the crossbar and away to end the shoot-out 6-5 in Indiana's favor. Indiana now takes on Wisconsin-Milwaukee and UCLA plays Penn State as Men's Championship Round of 16 play is about to get underway.

In pool A: Michigan State defeated Florida to win the pool 3-0. Both teams advance to the open quarterfinals. Alabama defeated Villanova 5-2. Both teams have been eliminated.

In pool B: Kansas defeated Connecticut 3-1 to win the pool. Both teams advance to the open quarterfinals. Iowa State defeated Central Florida 2-0. Both teams have been eliminated.

Indiana-UCLA time update

The PK shootout for Indiana and UCLA is scheduled for 11:45am on field 10 not noon as indicated earlier.

Women's Champ Division Update

In pool A: Delaware defeated Michigan 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals later today. Michigan still won the group with Delaware finishing second. North Carolina defeated Colorado State Gold 3-1. Both teams have been eliminated from bracket play.

In pool B: Defending 2006 Open Champion California-Santa Barbara defeated Texas A&M 3-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. A&M has been eliminated. Michigan State won the pool with a 2-1 victory over Cornell. Michigan State defeated UCSB earlier in pool play to win the tiebreaker as both teams advanced to the quarterfinal. Texas A&M and Cornell have been eliminated.

Penalty Kicks to decide Men's Pool A in Champ Div.

Indiana and UCLA from the Men's Championship Division finished in a dead heat in Pool A after both defeated Auburn 1-0 and both tied in their own game 2-2. They will head for a penalty kick tiebreaker scheduled for 11:45am on Field 10 of the Brosnaham Sportsplex. The winner will play Wisconsin-Milwaukee immediately afterwards in the beginning of Round of 16 bracket play. The loser will play Penn State.
